Our History & Accomplishments
The Honokaa High School Jazz band was established by Mr. Washburn in 1978. Once a severely lacking and non-productive program, Mr. Washburn transformed the music program and steadily grew and improved the jazz band until it is what it is today; Legendary, having won a Grammy Award in 2011.
As a jazz band, we play a variety of music styles for a variety of audiences, ranging from blues, latin tunes, and others. We have played at festivals, shopping centers, schools, and perfoming arts theatres, including HPA and Kahilu Theater.
It is considered one of the top high school bands, astonishing audiences with its talent and advanced skill levels.

Each Year, We lose students due to Graduation. This is a sad moment, but also a proud one. Many of our seniors move on to become involved with music and many receive scholarships for college. We are very sad to say goodbye to the biggest group of seniors we've had yet, but we are very proud of the leadership, hard work, and outstanding skills of these students. We will miss you!
